About
Inspired by his love of nature, his songs find their own expression, documented by two LPs, four of his own CD releases and numerous concerts. The singer, songwriter, composer and guitarist from Cologne has shared the stage with Till Brönner, Xaver Fischer, Roland Peil, Christina Lux and many other great musicians and has opened for international artists such as Johnny "Guitar" Watson and Bobby Womack. His songs were featured on Max Mutzke's debut album, produced by Stefan Raab, for which he was awarded the "Golden Record". His music - in that borderland of folk, soul, funk and jazz - is authentic, and his warm, deep voice touches the heart and soul.
He toured and released under the stage name "Leon Delray" from 1990 to 1996 and was also the singer and guitarist in the Cologne bands The Busy Body, The Soulsuckers and The Sookie Allstars. However, he gave his first concert with his own compositions for guitar and his own songs in Cologne in 1980 and since then has played on many small and large stages, such as in the Cologne Philharmonie as the winner of the "Hennessy Jazz Search" and on the occasion of the concert for the 25th anniversary of the Leverkusener Jazztage with Al Jarreau and Lizz Wright.
His voice became known to a wider audience with the Barry White-like soul ballad "Let's Make A Baby" in the hit movie "(T)raumschiff Surprise" by Michael "Bully" Herbig. But his guitar playing alone would be worth a concert visit. Tuning his guitar in D major or A major, he accompanies himself in everything from delicate fingerstyle to powerful funky grooves. A man, his guitar, his voice, his songs - Udo Schild is a versatile and impressive musician.
