After it’s first official screening at the renowned Max Ophüls festival Su Turhans “Ayla”, an emotionally impressive movie about love, honour, friendship and being torn between two different cultures, came into the cinemas in May 2010. With great sensitivity and care writer and director Turhan tells the story of a German born daughter of Turkish parents, who is on the search for the delicate balance between honouring her Turkish roots and the liberal Western way of life. Young actress Pegah Ferydoni, who became popular in Germany through the successful tv-sitcom “Türkisch für Anfänger (Turkish for beginners)” starrs brillantly in her first cinema lead. The impressive camera work comes from academy award winner Michael Ballhaus, and the soundtrack is also provided by a top notch artist:Ali N. Askan, born to Turkish parents in munich, Germany, studied at the Munich music academy and and later at the tv- and movie academy HFF, before working in Los Angeles for Frank Zappas “The YellowShark” project between 1991 and 1993. Since 2001 he is now based in Berlin and has made himself a name through his work in a variety of musical fields, including a lot of soundtrack work such as the score to the “Türkisch für Anfänger”-series. His soundtrack to the movie “Salami Aleikum" by Ali Samadi Ahadi earned him a nomination for the prestigious German movie award “Lola” in 2010.
